Two among the most practiced spamming strategies are link spam and invisible text. Internet marketing experts studied that this method has long been existing since the discovery of spamming methods for the desperate web marketing “venturers.”
The purpose of link spamming is to increase the website page rank. Some spammers tend to fill a certain web page with nothing but links leading to its main site or to other subsidiary sites. Some of the links are not directly leading to the main site; they lead the visitors to another page full of links in it.
Link exchanges are also another form of link spam. Links are not real reflection of the user’s choice. Thanks to Google that it is able to filter out links like these. However, there are also link exchanges Google would credit. Its basis of acceptance is the relevancy of links.
Another spam technique is the invisible text. The text is made invisible by setting the color of the text the same with its background or background image.
Both web visitors and search robots are deceived in this kind of spamming technique. The visitors are seeing a certain web page with text on it but the search engines are seeing a totally different content.
Sometimes, we, internet marketing professionals are disheartened with the fact that the spamming tactics are growing in numbers and getting stronger. It is even saddening that we can’t do something about it except search engines themselves. But, as online marketing entrepreneurs, we should abide to the principle of optimism.
