GIF versus JPEG: Some of the mistakes that web designers commit is the use of the wrong image format. This should be avoided. Here’s how. If the image has small number of colors (that is to say less than 64 colors), it is better to use GIF image format. Don’t forget to reduce the palette size to preserve a better-looking image. For instance, if your photo has 10-15 colors, the palette reduction would be 16-32 colors. Also, use GIF format if the image has text. JPEG format for images with text would make the text and edges blurry because of the “loosy” compression method. However, JPEG is the excellent format for photograph. What make the photograph looking good with JPEG format are the 32 million different colors. For large images with large text, it is also recommended to save the photo with JPEG format.
